BA Art Warm-Up – Foundation Course
2021
semester
The final project for this class – an exercise in really looking at what is in front of you and dealing with the Monitor and Feedback. I want to survey the Monitor and film the Monitor disregarding any Motifs and Subjects. Even the Monitor is too broad of a term. I want to work on the LEDs that light up when Video is playing on our Monitors. It is an inquiry into the nature of our digital screens. On the other hand, I want to deal with feedback. Feedback as I film the Monitor playing the video I just filmed and recording the audio played through the Monitor’s speakers. This loop will go on and I want to find out where it leads me. What can the RGB LEDs of a digital Monitor offer me? Are we looking at images, flashing LEDs, or just a thin coating of unreflective material?
I am interested in this subject as I spent a lot of time looking at my archive footage on my Monitor and in discussions with Martin and Julia, I realized that I wasn’t looking at my images but at a Monitor. As to quote Martin: “You are refusing to look at your own images.”. This is an exercise in seeing and perceiving. What am I actually looking at?
