Design a tree – SMUSS
BA Design Warm-Up – Foundation Course
2022
semester
After having analyzed every single aspect of a tree, its characteristics, its phenomena and its colors, the moment has come to concretize all that we have observed. Faced with the need to think of a project that would best express our journey, synthesize our experiences and offer people an innovative and ecological service, we came up with the concept of the roof. The first key words were: protection, shelter and community. From the very first moment we wanted to act in the social sphere, so we thoroughly investigated the needs of individuals in the area of public mobility and decided to operate where society does not fully meet them. In fact, all means of transportation, and in particular buses, are the order of the day for kids and students up to thirty years of age, but also for the elderly and adults without cars; moreover, they represent a certainly relevant solution to the decrease of the production of pollution and CO2 in the air, especially in big cities.
Regarding its appearance, we were very interested in the idea that the shape of our bus stop was reminiscent of a beehive: in addition to being nature-alike, it provides a large roof, great for protection, it cooperates perfectly with all the features we wanted it to have and works great with the assembly concept, fitting either a single unit or a group.
Therefore, starting from here, we designed three different types of roofs of different sizes one from each other, in order to adapt them to the territory and insert them in the best way in the surrounding space. Without ever leaving aside, however, its characteristic exagonal shape, a certainly distinctive feature of our design.
The main features that characterize SMUSS, a smart bus stop, touch different areas, such as security (through lights, 360 ° cameras and a button for emergency calls to 112), sustainability (in fact SMUSS is proudly 100% plastic free), an autonomous energy system (which, through photovoltaic solar panels, guarantees enough energy for the entire stop), comfort (guaranteed by seats that heat and cool according to external temperatures) and technology (through the round screen that gives access to the live GPS trackers of the buses and to many other information systems, including tourist information).
