To Carry – Everyday project
BA Design Warm-Up – Foundation Course
2023
semester
The aim of the Everyday Project was to re-elaborate an object that is usually referred to as “normal”, improving its look and functionality.
Our research concerned the concept of the world “carry”. We started attempting to thoroughly investigate the meaning of the assigned topic. We identified a whole series of objects that we commonly use to transport other objects/individuals.
Our intention was to reproduce a trolley normally used to do the shopping.
After a few models, we came up with one final prototype. Here shown are the two versions of our prototype, which we made using different materials. The first version of our project model is made out of cardboard; while the second one is made primarly out of wood.
The final model consists in a re-evaluation and refinement of the previous ideas. In order to improve its functionality, we chose to make a support through the intersection of the two axes. As for the container, on the other hand, we created a bag made of parachute fabric that guarantees the support of a heavy weight and impermeability, and which is tightened at the base by means of laces with a stretch fastener. As far as the aesthetic aspect is concerned, we decided to use wood, with the aim of increasing the value of the object and lowering the age target for its use.
