With the final version of our cake stand, we finally tackled the problem of how the top tier should stay balanced and in place.

We needed an element that was not too bulky, but at the same time sturdy enough to allow the top tier to stay balanced when putting some weight on it from appetisers, cupcakes, slices of cake…We then worked on adding details only on the handle and eventually came up with the idea of having this sort of horizontal rectangular handles at a certain height that fit perfectly into the cuts of the plates so that they do not take up too much space when ‘closed’. Another detail was the angles made at the ends of the rods, so that when assembling the base plate these angles fit “pinching” into the cuts, so that the plate doesn’t fall over when carrying the cake stand.
