Memories are corruptible strands of reality, every time we recall a memory we may accidentally alter it or disminsh its accuracy. For this reason most of us can be fooled into believing that we remember an event or an experience that never happened and that false memory can be just as vivid as a real one. This occurs because memory actually are networks distributed across the brain; cluster of brain cells that form a memory are linked up to each other. Each time we recall a specific memory , the link becomes stronger, but that doesn’t mean it becomes more stable. Every time we access the network we are able to change it, as a consequence we essentially reconstruct our narrative rather than relive it.
My piece represents this psychological phenomenon through a generic childhood experience, throughout the time the memory fades-out. The four mages want to show the process of how our brain transform a real episode into something different by adding possible details or elements, that could have happened but they had not, thank to the use of our imagination. Indeed for this reason the major focus is not to be on the images theirselves, but on the process they are submitted to.
