Thinking about Image, I was fascinated by the fact that we as humans always try to put images into a contextual frame. We always want to know what’s happening and the reason behind it. Then, in my opinion, the same thing goes for women.
The world has a specific frame for women, a frame of expectations and rules. And the second a woman does not correspond to that frame, that image, she will be confronted with confusion, discomfort or even hate.
The video comes from a feeling of anger and rage about how women are treated, but it is not meant to show this anger.
More precisely, I wanted to portray a woman trying to escape the Image that men put on her, and the struggle that is behind the feeling of not knowing if you are yourself, or just the result of growing up in a world dominated by the male gaze.
I created situations typically known for the stereotype of women, and tried to transform them in a way that you would not expect. That is supposed to create an unsettling, uncanny feeling.
