Glaze Me Up, Stone Me Down is an experimental project on ceramic glazing. In the stone industry there are huge amounts of stone powder as a waste product, so the main challenge of the project was to assess if they could be an input in another field. Different stone-based materials, such as marble, porphyry, and gneiss, were mixed with several bases and additives, like water, glass and quartz powder, transparent glaze, and wood ash, to explore if stone as a main ingredient in glazing is a viable possibility. The results suggest that using stone powder as a main ingredient can definitely be challenging, however it remains a valuable option as an additive in existing techniques to obtain unique effects.
