Pressed Rib Cutlery | cutlery set
BA Product Design Project
2023
semester
The primary objective of the Pressed Rib Cutlery Project is to create a set of flatware that serves as a stylized representation of commonly used eating utensils. It embarks on a journey through distant realms to explore and embrace novel eating practices. The design of this cutlery set exhibits characteristics reminiscent of both medical and mechanical devices, acting as a catalyst for diverse fields of inspiration.
In Western society, the fork and spoon have emerged as the most prevalent eating tools over centuries of refinement, culminating in their contemporary ergonomic shapes. The project acknowledges the merits of these two utensils and amalgamates their qualities into a unified design. Additionally, the fork is adapted with a simplified configuration featuring two prongs, facilitating the consumption of smaller food portions. The primary focus of the cutlery set lies in the spoon-like end, which enables the user to convey solid or dense foods to their mouth comfortably.
Moreover, as indicated by its name, the set incorporates a rib element. This rib serves a dual purpose, providing increased strength against bending and enhancing grip during use. Furthermore, the middle section of the cutlery is sandblasted, offering an additional gripping surface. The polished nature of the extremities ensures improved hygiene for the portions that come into direct contact with food and the mouth.
Overall, the Pressed Rib Cutlery Project strives to deliver a unique collection of flatware that embodies a distinctive fusion of familiar eating tools. It embarks on a visionary exploration of unconventional eating habits while acknowledging the functionality and evolution of the fork and spoon. The incorporation of a rib element reinforces structural integrity and grip, complemented by the sandblasted middle section. Through meticulous attention to detail, the cutlery set enhances both the tactile experience and hygiene standards, culminating in a captivating and practical dining utensil ensemble.
