Archipelago
“Archipelago” tells the story of a dissatisfied member of society and his journey through alienation, maladaptation, and exiting. The story takes place in a collection of interdependent islands, each specialized in a certain field of production or service. Through cooperation and collaboration the islands have developed a complex system of exchange through which they have reached prosperity and stability. Each island is home to different ideologies, perspectives and lifestyles as the priorities and responsibilities with which their inhabitants are imbued vary with the specialization of the island. However different they consider themselves from one another, they always remain united by their need for the others services.
Using the idea of an interdependent island system, this story tries to bridge the abstract nature of sociological studies with physical and spatial metaphors.
Society: a collection of islands.
Islands: representative of different milieus/social groups as well as the role that they take in the societal system.
Water: the liquid fabric simultaneously separating and unifying these different social groups by being the space in-between them but also filling that space, which makes it traversable.
