A contemporary, illustrated fantasy novel with fairy tale and fable elements

Exploitation and conflicts between different social, cultural or religious groups are phenomena which have continuously been prevalent throughout history until our recent times in many different parts of the world. Right through the developmental process of my work I was following a literary approach to address these occurrences in an abstracted method. After the intense research of authors such as Todorov, Vargas Llosa, Jünger, Orwell, Filelfo and Zannoni, I finally started with the invention and creation of my own written story. It is a contemporary fantasy novel which contains elements of traditional fables and fairy tales. Throughout the narration the tribe of the Subterranei, fantastic animals living underneath earth, is being exploited and proselytized by the Caelestis, magical animals living above earth. Because cultural groups from the real world are generally represented by two fictional and invented tribes, my work becomes universally applicable to many different scenarios in human societies. At the same time, a general message which advocates mutual tolerance and acceptance is delivered. The final appearance of my illlustrated story book is inspired by historical, illuminated manuscripts such as the famous book of Kells or Aldo Manuzio’s Hyperotomachia Poliphili. My layout is referring to those references, but comes along with a modern appearance. By printing on differently coloured papers and creating lively and detailed illustrations with decorative elements, I finally designed a precious visual appearance that inspires to dream and escape into a world of fantasy.

Un romanzo fantasy contemporaneo con elementi di fiabe e favole tradizionali

Lo sfruttamento e i conflitti tra diversi gruppi sociali, culturali o religiosi sono fenomeni che sono stati continuamente diffusi lungo la storia fino ai nostri tempi recenti in molte parti del mondo. Durante l’intero processo di sviluppo del mio lavoro, ho seguito un approccio letterario per affrontare queste situazioni in modo astratto. Dopo intense ricerche sugli autori come Todorov, Vargas Llosa, Jünger, Orwell, Filelfo e Zannoni, ho finalmente iniziato con l’invenzione e la creazione della mia storia scritta. Si tratta di un romanzo fantasy contemporaneo che contiene elementi di fiabe e favole tradizionali. Lungo la narrazione, la tribù dei Subterranei, animali fantastici che vivono sotto terra, viene sfruttata e proselitizzata dai Caelestis, animali magici che vivono sopra la terra. Poiché i gruppi culturali del mondo reale sono generalmente rappresentati da due tribù immaginarie e inventate, il mio lavoro diventa universalmente applicabile a molte diverse situazioni nelle società umane. Allo stesso tempo, viene trasmesso un messaggio generale che promuove la tolleranza reciproca e l’accettazione. L’aspetto finale del mio libro illustrato è ispirato a manoscritti storici illuminati come il famoso Libro di Kells o l’ Hyperotomachia Poliphili di Aldo Manuzio. Il mio layout si rifà a questi riferimenti, ma con un aspetto moderno. Stampando su carte di colori diversi e creando illustrazioni vivaci e dettagliate con elementi decorativi, ho infine progettato un aspetto visivo prezioso che ispira a sognare e a fuggire in un mondo di fantasia.

Ein zeitgenössischer Fantasyroman mit Elementen aus traditionellen Märchen und Fabeln

Ausbeutung und Konflikte zwischen verschiedenen sozialen, kulturellen oder religiösen Gruppen sind Phänomene, die kontinuierlich durch die geschichtliche Entwicklung bis in unsere moderne Zeit in vielen verschiedenen Teilen der Welt aufgetreten sind. Während des Entwicklungsprozesses meiner Arbeit habe ich eine literarische Herangehensweise verfolgt, um diese Vorkommnisse auf eine abstrahierte Weise anzusprechen. Nach der intensiven Recherche der Werke von Autoren wie Todorov, Vargas Llosa, Jünger, Orwell, Filelfo und Zannoni habe ich schließlich mit der Erfindung und Kreierung meiner eigenen schriftlichen Geschichte begonnen. Bei dieser handelt es sich um einen zeitgenössischen Fantasyroman, der Elemente aus traditionellen Fabeln und Märchen enthält. Innerhalb der Erzählung wird der Stamm der Subterranei, der aus Fabelwesen, die unter der Erde leben, besteht, vom Stamm der Caelestis, magischen Tieren, die oberhalb der Erde leben, ausgebeutet und bekehrt. Weil kulturelle Gruppen aus der realen Welt allgemein von zwei fiktiven und frei erfundenen Stämmen repräsentiert werden, kann meine Arbeit allgemein auf viele verschiedene Szenarien in menschlichen Gesellschaften angewandt werden. Gleichzeitig wird eine allgemeine Botschaft, die für gegenseitige Toleranz und Akzeptanz wirbt, vermittelt. Die finale Erscheinung meines illustrierten Geschichtenbuches wurde von historischen, illuminierten Handschriften wie dem brühmten Buch von Kells und Aldo Manuzios Hyperotomachia Poliphili inspiriert. Indem ich auf Papiere mit verschiedenfarbigen Hintergründen gedruckt und detallierte Illustrationen mit dekorativen Elementen angefertigt habe, konnte ich schlussendlich ein wertvolles Erscheinungsbild erzeugen, das zum Träumen und einer Flucht in eine Welt voller Fantasie anregt.
