FLOP
BA Major Design – Graduation Project
2022.2
Considered just as a mere obstacle, the conception we have of anything that could represent an error is mostly negative. We almost develop a revulsion and, in some case, even a phobia towards what could be the cause of the deviation from the expected result.
But what if, instead, this new path were a possibility for a vision we could never have imagined?
Then the mistake would become an unlikely stepping stone, capable of making us investigate corners so far remained hidden. My idea was to start from our own mistakes to pave the way for many others, like a chain reaction in which an initial mistake is the cause of all subsequent errors. Therefore, starting with my own imperfect photographs, I extrapolated the wrong elements in them, temperature, light and surface, as inspiration for the creation of a series of analogue photographs.
The photographic atlas ‘Flop’ brings together a collection of imperfect photographs, where, while in the first photographs the faces of the subjects are still visible, in the last ones the error has completely taken over, becoming the absolute protagonist of my shots.
