HUMAN/A.I.: seeking our symbols

The thesis consists of a creative collaboration between man and machine. From
hundreds of my automatic drawings, an A.I. learns about the visual characteristics of the
style and from these in turn produces similar images. The visual manifestation of my
unconscious becomes a series of symbols for the machine. Such symbols are analysed as
a new code, from which the A.I. produces its own visual output. In the final step I take
inspiration from the new generated images by mixing them and I reproduce them with
analogical media onto physical surfaces.

La tesi consiste in una collaborazione creativa tra uomo e macchina. Da centinaia di
miei disegni automatici, un’I.A. impara le caratteristiche visive dello stile e da queste
produce a sua volta immagini simili. La manifestazione visiva del mio inconscio diventa
una serie di simboli per la macchina. Tali simboli vengono analizzati come un nuovo
codice, dal quale l’I.A. produce il proprio output visivo. Nella fase finale mi ispiro alle
nuove immagini generate mescolandole e riproducendole con mezzi analogici su
superfici fisiche.

Die Diplomarbeit besteht aus einer kreativen Zusammenarbeit zwischen Mensch und
Maschine. Aus Hunderten meiner automatischen Zeichnungen lernt eine K.I. die
visuellen Merkmale des Stils kennen und erzeugt daraus wiederum ähnliche Bilder. Die
visuelle Manifestation meines Unbewussten wird zu einer Reihe von Symbolen für die
Maschine. Diese Symbole werden als neuer Code analysiert, aus dem die K.I. ihre
eigene visuelle Ausgabe erzeugt. Im letzten Schritt lasse ich mich von den neu erzeugten
Bildern inspirieren, indem ich sie mische und mit analogen Medien auf physischen
Oberflächen reproduziere.
