“Look Closer” è composto da sei video animati su computer in 2D, raffiguranti parti del corpo di due persone generiche. Di ciascun personaggio sono rappresentati primi piani estremi di occhi, bocca e mani, disegnati a linee nere su sfondo bianco e disconnessi completamente dal resto del corpo, che non è visibile. Le animazioni sono sincronizzate tra di loro e, se avviate e mostrate contemporaneamente, rivelano un muto dialogo tra i due personaggi, costituito solamente da linguaggio del corpo. La figura umana è frammentata in modo da costringere lo spettatore a notare e analizzare i dettagli della mimica corporea che altrimenti sarebbero stati ignorati, persi nell’immagine complessiva della persona. Per questa ragione i video vanno spazialmente disposti in un ordine tale da rendere difficile riconnetterli senza prima osservarli diligentemente uno per uno. Il fine dell’opera è di incoraggiare il pubblico a prestare più attenzione a come i sentimenti muovono varie parti del nostro corpo; questi spesso inosservati indizi, infatti, nascondono un notevole potere comunicativo e possono portare ad una migliore comprensione dello stato emotivo delle persone con cui interagiamo.

“Look Closer” is made up of six computer-animated videos in 2D, depicting various body parts of two generic people. More specifically, the subjects displayed are extreme close-ups of the eyes, mouth and hands of each character, drawn in black lines on a white background and completely disconnected from the rest of the body, which is not visible. The animations are synchronized amongst themselves and, if played at the same time, they show a silent dialogue between the two characters, consisting of only body language. The human figure is fragmented in order to force the viewer to notice and analyze the details of body language that would otherwise have been ignored, lost in the overall image of the person. For this reason, the videos must be spatially arranged in such a way that it would be difficult to reconnect them without first diligently observing them one by one. The purpose of the work is to encourage the public to pay more attention to how feelings move various parts of our body; these oft-overlooked clues hold a great communicative power and may bring us to acquire a better understanding of the emotional state of the people we interact with.

“Look Closer” besteht aus sechs mit dem Computer animierten 2D Videos, die verschiedene Körperteile zweier generischer Personen zeigen. Genauer gesagt, die gezeigten Bilder sind Details der Augen, der Münder und der Händen beider Charaktere, gezeichnet mit schwarzen Linien auf einem weißen Hintergrund, isoliert vom Rest des Körpers, der nicht sichtbar ist. Die animierten Ausschnitte sind miteinander synchronisiert und zeigen einen Dialog der beiden Charaktere allein mit der Körpersprache. Die Ausschnitte lenken die Aufmerksamkeit auf Details, die bei einer ganzheitlichen Betrachtung des Körpers übersehen würden. Das Hauptziel der Arbeit ist es, den Betrachter zu ermutigen, die Art und Weise, wie unser Körper von Gefühlen bewegt wird, besser zu beobachten. Diese oft übersehene Körpersprache hat ein hohes kommunikatives Potenzial und könnte zu einem besseren Verständnis des emotionalen Zustandes einer Person beitragen.
