MARMO ZERO – Introducing Marble Powder Into Design
– Graduation Project
2021.2
Marble powder is a waste product of the marble industry, generated by quarrying, cutting and polishing. In this work, innovative uses for this form of material are sought. Through material samples with different components, marble powder and its behavior were analyzed. This material research led to the creation of Marmo Zero, a solid foam made from marble powder and agar-agar. Marmo Zero is fundamentally different from solid marble and offers new possibilities for processing and application. As the work progresses, it becomes clear that marble powder‘s excellent properties make it ideal for agricultural soils. Therefore, it is advantageous to have a temporary product, which is directly degraded by the environment after use. This closes the material cycle and the soil benefits from its ingredients. This approach developed Mar- bor: a ring of Marmo Zero, which is placed around the plant and thus protects against weeds, stores water, regulates the pH value and provides the soil with important nutrients. Marbor is a growing aid for plants that supports the healthy growth of the surrounding nature throughout its product life.
