2021.1

Today, more than half the world’s population currently lives in urban areas. This trend is expected to continue, and by 2050 it’s forecasted that this number will double in size with nearly 7 out of every 10 people in the world living in cities. Even if new interesting and innovative concepts can be expected for public transport within cities, individual transport connecting one with nature will take a different approach as it more closely influences the wellbeing of its users. With this kind of projection, car ownership will begin to drop and many new ride sharing platforms will begin to emerge. By means of transportation design, this project’s desired result is to promote a healthy and outdoor lifestyle by more easily connecting people with the outdoors and the numerous outdoor activities that go along with it. Historically, there was only one car brand that stands at the forefront to help achieve this, the Swedish manufacturer, Volvo. Not only does Volvo have a deeply rooted connection with outdoor activities and way of life, Volvo also stands for creating powerful moments between its users that reach far beyond the car itself. This project aims at designing a new car conception and shared transportation platform based on the simplistic Scandinavian design philosophy of Volvo, putting into question what it is a car can be and what exactly it stands for
