Vivere sotto il ponte tra degrado e decoro

Il territorio urbano presenta spesso spazi trascurati, marginali, nei quali solitamente nessuno vive o si ferma. A Bolzano, in Alto Adige, c’è uno spazio di questo tipo nella zona sottostante al ponte dell’autostrada del Brennero, ma a tale luogo è stata data una seconda possibilità e si è conquistato una propria identità. I pilastri della struttura sono dipinti di rosa, come parecchi dei numerosi oggetti che arredano quello che sembra essere un curioso salotto all’aperto. L’autore di tale intervento è un uomo che si fa chiamare Maradona e che ha fatto di questo spazio la propria casa, ma soprattutto l’ha reso un luogo invitante e curato, accessibile a tutti. Maradona si prende cura di questa zona trascurata e sistema gli oggetti raccattati in giro tra i rifiuti lasciati dalla gente ai margini della città per esporli nello spazio sotto il ponte.

Attraverso un progetto editoriale che racconta la storia di Maradona, si vuole approfondire il concetto di vita “ai margini” e indagare come si possa dare una nuova chance a spazi interstiziali abbandonati. L’analisi dell’esempio di Maradona coinvolge alcuni campi del design, come quello dell’esposizione, della relazione fra decorazione e decoro e dell’upcycling, toccando il rapporto tra progetto e mondo reale, tra auspici dei designer e punto di vista dell’utente finale. Allo stesso tempo, la ricerca di questo progetto di tesi include alcuni studi di designer, architetti e paesaggisti come Ugo La Pietra e Gilles Clément, al fine di approfondire la relazione tra l’essere umano e gli spazi pubblici urbani, soprattutto marginali, e analizzare come riappropriarsi della città non solo con interventi materiali, ma anche cambiando mentalità e paradigmi comportamentali.

Leben unter der Brücke zwischen Verfall und Dekoration

Im städtischen Raum gibt es oft vernachlässigte, marginale Räume, in denen normalerweise niemand lebt oder sich aufhält. In Bozen, Südtirol, gibt es einen solchen Raum unter der Brenner-Autobahnbrücke, aber dieser Ort hat eine zweite Chance erhalten und eine eigene Identität gewonnen. Die Pfeiler des Bauwerks sind rosa gestrichen, ebenso wie einige der zahlreichen Objekte, die ein kurioses Wohnzimmer unter freiem Himmel einrichten. Der Autor dieser Intervention ist ein Mann, der sich Maradona nennt. Er hat diesen Raum zu seinem Zuhause, vor allem aber zu einem einladenden und gepflegten Ort gemacht, der für alle zugänglich ist. Maradona kümmert sich um diesen vernachlässigten Bereich und sammelt Gegenstände aus dem Müll, den die Menschen am Stadtrand hinterlassen haben, um sie in dem Raum unter der Brücke auszustellen.

Durch ein redaktionelles Projekt, das Maradonas Geschichte erzählt, soll das Konzept des Lebens “am Rande” erforscht und untersucht werden, wie verlassene Zwischenräume eine neue Chance erhalten können. Die Analyse des Beispiels von Maradona umfasst eine Reihe von Designbereichen: Display, Beziehung zwischen Dekoration und Dekor, Upcycling. Sie berührt die Beziehung zwischen Design und der realen Welt, zwischen den Wünschen der Designer und der Sichtweise des Endverbrauchers. Gleichzeitig umfasst dieses Dissertationsprojekt einige Studien von Designern, Architekten und Landschaftsarchitekten wie Ugo La Pietra und Gilles Clément, um die Beziehung zwischen den Menschen und den städtischen öffentlichen Räumen, insbesondere den marginalen, zu untersuchen und zu analysieren, wie man sich die Stadt nicht nur durch materielle Interventionen, sondern auch durch die Veränderung von Mentalitäten und Verhaltensparadigmen wieder aneignen kann.

Living under the bridge between degradation and decorum

The urban area often has marginal, neglected spaces in which nobody usually lives or stays. In Bolzano, South Tyrol, there is such a space in the area below the Brenner highway bridge, but this place has been given a second chance and has gained its own identity. The pillars of the structure are painted pink, as are several of the numerous objects that furnish what appears to be a curious open-air living room. The author of this intervention is a man who calls himself Maradona and who has made this space his home, but above all has made it an inviting and well-kept place, accessible to everyone. Maradona takes care of this neglected area and arranges objects picked up from the rubbish left by people on the outskirts of the city to display them in the space under the bridge.

Through an editorial project telling Maradona’s story, the aim is to explore the concept of living ‘on the edge’ and to investigate how abandoned interstitial spaces can be given a new chance. The analysis of Maradona’s example involves a number of design fields, such as exhibit design, the connection between decoration and decorum and upcycling, touching on the relationship between design and the real world, between designers’ wishes and the end user’s point of view. At the same time, the research of this thesis project includes some studies of designers, architects and landscape architects such as Ugo La Pietra and Gilles Clément, in order to investigate the relationship between human beings and urban public spaces, especially marginal ones, and to analyse how to re-appropriate the city not only with material interventions, but also by changing mentalities and behavioural paradigms.
