Urbanometry, the light of the stars

La tesi di laurea affronta il problema dell’inquinamento luminoso urbano.
Si tratta di un problematica di vasta portata che influisce negativamente su differenti aspetti della nostra vita
e dell’ecosistema che ci circonda. A causa dell’eccessiva illuminazione pubblica e privata, le città sono
coperte da una cupola luminosa. Quest’ultima ostacola l’accesso al cielo notturno e tutto ciò a cui esso è
associato, compresa l’osservazione delle stelle. Un’ esperienza che non riguarda semplicemente
guardare le stelle, ma la stessa cultura e valori dell’uomo sempre meno capace di meravigliarsi di fronte alla
bellezza della natura. Le vecchie costellazioni vengono quindi sostituite da nuove fatte di lampioni, luci
pubbliche,semafori e telefoni cellulari. Da questo spunto ha preso avvio la mia tesi di laurea la quale,
attraverso un’ installazione mobile e un rituale collettivo, vuole invitare la comunità a spegnersi per un attimo
e guardare all’insù. Il progetto mira a riconnettere l’uomo alla volta celeste e rieducarlo alla meraviglia di un
cielo che ha ispirato nel passato viaggiatori e poeti ma ha ancora molte storie da raccontare.

Diese Diplomarbeit befasst sich mit dem Problem der städtischen Lichtverschmutzung. Diese ist ein großes
Problem, das sich auf verschiedene Aspekte unseres Lebens und das uns umgebende Ökosystem
negativ auswirkt. Durch die übermäßige öffentliche und private Beleuchtung befinden sind die Städte unter
einer leuchtenden Kuppel. Diese versperrt den Zugang zum Nachthimmel und allem, was damit
zusammenhängt, einschließlich der Sternenbeobachtung. Eine Erfahrung, bei der es nicht nur darum geht,
einfach nur die Sterne zu betrachten, sondern um die Kultur und die Werte der Menschheit, die immer
weniger in der Lage ist, die Schönheit der Natur zu bewundern. Die alten Sternbilder werden daher durch
neue ersetzt, die aus Straßenlaternen, öffentlichen Leuchten, Verkehrsampeln und Mobiltelefonen bestehen.
Dies war der Ausgangspunkt für die Idee meiner Diplomarbeit, die durch eine mobile Installation und ein
kollektives Ritual die Gemeinschaft dazu einladen will, für einen Moment abzuschalten und nach oben zu
schauen. Das Projekt soll eine neue Verbindung zum Himmelsgewölbe schaffen und den Menschen das
Wunder des Himmels wieder näher bringen. Wunder eines Himmels, der in der Vergangenheit Reisende
und Dichter inspiriert hat und noch immer viele Geschichten zu erzählen hat.

This degree thesis deals with the problem of urban light pollution. It is a vast concern that negatively affects
different aspects of our lives and the ecosystem that surrounds us. Because of excessive public and private
lighting, cities are covered in a luminous dome. It obstructs access to the night sky and everything
associated with it, including stargazing. An experience that is not just about simply watching the stars but
about the culture and values of humankind, which is increasingly less able to marvel at the beauty of nature.
The old constellations are therefore replaced by new ones made of streetlamps, public lights, traffic lights,
and mobile phones. This was the starting point for the idea of my degree thesis, which through a mobile
installation and collective ritual aims to invite the community to switch off for a moment and look upwards.
The project aims to create a reconnection with the celestial vault and re-educate mankind about the
wonder of a sky that has inspired travellers and poets in the past but still has many stories to tell.
