First produced in 1955 by the Tula Mechanical Engineering Plant, this pioneering Soviet sewing machine had an electric motor. Prototypes were made in Leningrad and the design was based on sewing ma-chines taken from Germany after the war. Although the Tula Model 1 was rather popular and widely advertised, most Soviet citizens still preferred the trusted Singer sewing machine made by the famous American company.
