Infrastructures are the backbone necessary for the proper functioning and development of a society. As such, they are crucial for the well-being of the community. This project focuses on handrails, a fundamental element when it comes to safety. The target group considered is physically frail people. In particular, special attention was paid to elderly people and their weak hands. “Abbraccetto” is designed to provide support when descending or climbing stairs. Positioned at an optimum height of 100 cm, the product is created on a human scale and the shape follows the anatomy of a human arm. As the hand forms a sort of circle when closing, its tubular structure is easy to grip. Guaranteeing optimum ergonomics for all people, “Abbraccetto” is universal design.
