The city has its rituals, its habits, its timing. It grows, it deforms, it changes again and again. The city extends and retracts, new elements and obstructions emerge from cracks, holes, voids. The city reworks uses and habits of spaces, corners, streets.

This project “Appendici” was born from observations and explorations of the city. I spent time discovering urban elements that appear and disappear, that are invisible and go unnoticed or are unreachable, empty, forgotten, or unused. Appendices are everything that protrudes or an additional part, an extension of something that is already there. “Appendici” are protuberances that grow in the city. They grow in different places, creating a path to explore and discover, proposing a different way of relating to already defined urban spaces, in a playful and irreverent way. All objects adhere to infrastructures already present in the city, overcoming various limits imposed by them.

They all come from observing the shapes of landscapes and objects found while walking through the streets. I imagined them in specific places, but by taking the picture I realized how versatile they are, and how many other functions could work with these objects. All “Appendici” are developed according to a recognizable aesthetic, which creates unity between the various pieces in the collection.
