Ay Che Banana aims to empower customers and retailers to buy and support fair bananas for the farmers of Global South and for the wealth of our planet.

Bananas are the world’s bestselling fruit and it is estimated that they were the first fruit on earth. According to FAO (2020), 116 million tonnes of bananas are produced in 2019. They are one of the most consumed and cheapest fruits worldwide. Ecuador is the largest exporter and Europe is the biggest importer of bananas. They are tasty and easy to carry but the story of bananas has its dark side too. They are the second most chemically intensively grown crop after cotton. Monocultural plantation and lots of pesticides to control diseases threaten our planet and human beings. The banana industry is labor-intensive and demanding. Have you ever wondered why are the banana prices’ are so low? Retailers often offer deep discounts on bananas, sometimes selling below cost to attract customers. This is creating very low income and living conditions for farmers and it has harmful effects on the environment.

We can change the story of banana plantations together.

What if bananas create awareness on users, teach them the consequences of their actions?

Only if retailers get action from the customers who care about the story of what they consume, they must change their practices. Every Fairtrade banana you buy contributes to improving the lives of the workers and farmers behind this favorite fruit.

It’s now time to take responsibility…
