BIN

is a project comprised out of fourteen portraits, thirty-three images of trashcans and fourteen photos of trash. These have been arranged in a ninety-page book to open a window to aspects of ourselves, with which we rarely confront ourselves, but nonetheless reflect strongly in our sense of identity. The layout of the book focuses on comparability and easy access to information. The navigational system, inspired by the battleship grids, originates from the tables at the end of the book. There, the photoshoots are organized in vertical rows, each with the letter of the alphabet. In correspondence to the tables, page N1 will show the first photo of row N.

The title BIN has a double meaning: Regarded through an English cultural background it means so much as trashcan, in Germany though the word originates from the expression “Ich bin”, meaning I am. Therefore, the title, like the project, brings both worlds together, that of trash and identity.
