Castagne Sans – Specimen
BA Design Warm-Up – Foundation Course
2022
semester
Castagne is a fun and dynamic font. I wanted to give it a modern look, so I decided to play with rounded and short letters. The name comes from the process of creating the font, “Castagne” was the word that I wrote hundreds of time to make adjustments and give the font more armony.
The font comes from Claredon. Claredon is the name of a typeface that was released in 1845 by Thorowgood and Co. The credits for the original design go to Robert Besley. The typeface was very successful. Very soon it became an entire genre of type design. It was mainly used for display applications.
