In our modern society, which has become more versatile and individualistic, there is the problem of lacking tolerance and growing hate. To counteract, there is the rise of the phenomenon of political correctness which intends to create more openness and tolerance towards minority groups. On the one hand, this can be seen as an effective measure against discrimination, but on the other hand it cannot be denied that politically correct approaches induce a limitation in the freedom of expression. At the same time, the effectiveness needs to be questioned. Despite the fact that official language is becoming politically more correct, there is no guarantee that people using it really intend to communicate and represent the values it aims to induce. Using the framework of a series of fictional job interviews, this project intends to underline that politically correct language is often only used as a tool to hide the fact that decisions free of discrimination don’t exist. Knowing that they can’t justify their choices based on discriminative reasons, many employers put their decisions down to other reasons with an objective appearance.
