Denk.mal

My project called “Denk.mal” has two meanings in German: The first is “monument” and the second one means “think now”. It aims to raise awareness and challenge preconceptions through the use of collages and photomontages in famous squares and monuments in Bolzano. By replacing the existing statues or monuments with contemporary and relevant objects or symbols, I aim to alter the meaning and significance of these places and encourage people to question their understanding and interest in these historical sites.

The objects and symbols used in my collages are based on current events and issues that are present in Bolzano and South Tyrol, such as climate change, homelessness, energy crisis, sports and cultural activities, and everyday struggles that impact the local community.

Through this technique of replacing the old and often irrelevant statues or monuments with contemporary and relevant topics, I want to invite viewers to consider the meaning and significance of these places in a new way and to raise awareness about important issues that affect us all.
