Did you know that rivers are the main source of plastic pollution in the oceans?

8 million tons of plastic enter the ocean every year, this trash has an impact on the marine ecosystem. Plastic is made by chemically altering petroleum (oil) with time it breaks into smaller pieces, microscopic, known as: MICROPLASTIC, which endangers the health of animals.

Plastic in the ocean is a real issue, and we wanted to build a product that could help tackle this problem. So we created RIVBIN. RIVBIN is a kind of floating bin that can collect garbage floating by and ensures a plastic-free water space. The innovation is that it is meant to work in rivers, so that the trash is stopped before entering the ocean.

Afterwards, the collected garbage can be recycled and used as a new material.

If we don’t make a change now, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans.

Our goal is to prevent it from happening and we think that design has the power to do that.
