The Autoped was introduced by the Autoped Company in 1915. It was built in a petrol and an electric version with a motor on the front wheel, a throttle and position lights. The petrol version had a 155 cc engine. It could easily reach 32-35 km/h. The patent was filed by the inventor Arthur Hugo Cecil Gibson and the help of Joseph F. Merkel. The vehicle was very expensive and not accessible to everyone. Nevertheless, the intuition for a different kind of mobility was already there at that time.
