In 1949 the Japanese-born American designer Ray Komai designs Side Chair which will then be produced by the company J.G. Furniture System in New York. The seat was made by folding and shaping a single piece of plywood held together by a metal plate placed on the back of the backrest. The earliest model had wooden legs wich were later replaced with chromed metal ones.
