The Nike Cortez is the first track shoe created by Nike, Inc. It was introduced to the general public in 1972 Summer Olympics (in Munich) and was worn by all the U.S. racers. Bowerman believed that athletes deserved a better running shoe that could provide both comfort and durability. The foam is infact measured to be generously placed in more significant parts of the shoe with the intention of absorbing road shock.
