The round shape with the two knobs on the lid of the box fits perfectly into the hole on the bottom of the next box. When one twists one of the boxes, the knobs slide to the circular part of the hole and block the box from falling down.

With this system, one can stack many boxes on top of each other and store them in a bag or bag pack since the mechanism ensures they stay connected.
