Font Specimen – Kolobok Sans

semester

Kolobok is the name of a yellow round bun, the protagonist of an East Slavic national fairy tale, that used to be my favorite when I was a kid. The memory of my Grandma telling me this tale gave me the inspiration to realise this playful typeface. I built up my font starting from the legendary Garamond typeface, the font family follows the rules of what is now called the old-style of serif letter design, letters with a relatively organic structure resembling handwriting with a pen, but with a slightly more structured, upright design. Although Garamond is largely used in bodytexts, Kolobok is meant to be used in titles or texts that have a quite big interline. The typeface with it’s pecularities resembles the rolling and tumbling of the little round bun.
