Meiji was my first Sans Serif font.
As stated by the name; which referes to the historic period where Japan ended its isolationism starting to modernise and become “westernised”, the typeface takes inspiration from Japanese culture. Inspired by the ink-brushed strokes from the nation’s traditional calligraphy, the variation of the line thickness and roundish terminals reflect these characteristics.
