ASSIGNMENT + CONCEPT
We were asked to build a vase from thin aluminum plates that are actually used for offset printing. The vase should consist of asymmetrical elements. We were also asked to create a test model of the vase using “Finnpappe”.
I first built several variations of the vase in rhino and then decided on one. I then printed it as 2d curves and built the vase out of “Finnpappe”. Since I was happy with the size and shape I eventually built the vase out of aluminum. In order to be able to bend the aluminum I carved it with the cutter. I had some difficulty gluing the individual parts together. My vase is 31 cm tall and consists of many triangles which highlight the light-reflecting surface of the material.
