From CAD to reality
BA Design Warm-Up – Foundation Course
2023
semester

The aluminum vase was the last model done this semester. The first part of the prompt was to draw three different vase models on Rhino, decompose the solids into two-dimensional surfaces to be traced, and construct the three-dimensional figures with cardboard. Finally, we were asked to choose one of the three models and make it with the templates cut out of thin aluminum foil.
I wanted to take advantage of the CAD drawing to intersect exactly two geometric solids that went on to form the two parts of my vase. The result was thus a seemingly simple and clean shape but one that would not have been as easy to achieve without the ability to use the 3D modeling program.
