In the early 90’s a new political phenomenon started getting people’s attention in the American punk scene. The latter was in fact a male dominated field, which left very little space for women and non-men in general. In this environment a new underground feminist movement rose, and Riot Grrrls started creating handmade zines to express and spread their ideals, as well as founding all-girl punk bands. The movement promoted values linked to third-wave feminism and diy culture through music and zines.
