HESTIA – Waste Heat Recovery System
BA Product Design Project
2021
semester
Over one-third of global energy demand is space heating in both residential and commercial sectors. Heating is currently responsible for around 45 per cent of building emissions and still relying on fossil fuels for supplying more than 55 per cent of its final energy consumption. We have the urgent need to search for new technologies to speed up electrification and decarbonization.
HESTIA is a totally autonomous heating system that harnesses lost heat in the surroundings using a thermoelectric technology able to absorb it and store it in an isolated tank of water for then releasing heat in spaces on demand, with different intensity, through an extractable thermal mass.
Wasted heat is whenever and everywhere, it is energy that must be exploited. The amount of this invisible garbage is about 70 per cent of all the energy produced by humanity.
