Questo progetto tipografico consiste nella riesumazione di alcuni libri datati all’800 o ai primi anni del 900 conservati all’interno della Biblioteca di Bolzano. Una volta selezionata l’opera, sono stati ricreati al livello tipografico e fisico, stampati e rilegati nelle officine dell’università.

Il libro “Keine Illusionen!” è un libro datato al 1919, in lingua tedesca dell’autore Dr. Karl Polaczek. Esso riporta numerose critiche riguardo alla prossima introduzione dell’energia idroelettrica nella città di Bolzano, vista dall’opinione comune del tempo come un’innovazione. Da qui il titolo che indica al lettore di non lasciarsi illudere da chi descrive questa tecnologia come rivoluzionaria.

Il lavoro, in verità, non è stato prodotto per essere solo cartaceo, ma per far parte di una mostra nella biblioteca di Bolzano. E’ stata pensata per questo l’installazione in legno, realizzata con il laser cut, a forma di mulino, in chiaro riferimento alla tematica centrale del testo.

Il libro è rilegato in filorefe, con carta da 240g. La rilegatura in questione rende possibile l’apertura del libro a 180 gradi, e la grammatura della carta fa in modo che il libro si sostenga su sè stesso in posizione verticale.

La griglia tipografica scelta lascia un abbondante margine dalla parte della spina del libro, così da renderlo più leggibile anche quando è inserito nell’installazione. L’effetto applicato al testo rende l’idea di una pagina bagnata, con l’inchiostro diffuso.

This typographic project consists of the exhumation of a number of books dated to the 1800s or early 1900s preserved within the Bozen Library. Once the work was selected, they were recreated at the typographic and physical level, printed and bound in the university’s workshops.

The book “Keine Illusionen!” is a book dated 1919, in German language by author Dr. Karl Polaczek. It reports numerous criticisms regarding the upcoming introduction of hydroelectric power in the city of Bozen/Bolzano, which was seen by the common opinion of the time as an innovation. Hence the title that indicates to the reader not to be deluded by those who describe this technology as revolutionary.

The work, in truth, was not produced to be just paper, but to be part of an exhibition in the Bolzano library. This is what the wooden, laser-cut installation in the shape of a mill was designed for, in clear reference to the central theme of the text.

The book is bound in filorefe, with 240g paper. The binding in question makes it possible for the book to be opened 180 degrees, and the weight of the paper makes the book support itself in an upright position.

The typographic grid chosen leaves plenty of margin on the spine side of the book, so that it is more readable even when placed in the installation. The effect applied to the text gives the idea of a wet page, with the ink spread.

Dieses typografische Projekt besteht aus der Exhumierung einer Reihe von Büchern aus dem 19. oder frühen 20. Jahrhundert, die in der Bozener Bibliothek aufbewahrt werden. Nach der Auswahl der Werke wurden diese in den Werkstätten der Universität typografisch und physisch neu erstellt, gedruckt und gebunden.

Keine Illusionen!” ist ein Buch aus dem Jahr 1919 in deutscher Sprache des Autors Dr. Karl Polaczek. Es enthält zahlreiche Kritikpunkte an der bevorstehenden Einführung der Wasserkraft in der Stadt Bozen, die von der damaligen öffentlichen Meinung als Innovation angesehen wurde. Daher auch der Titel, der den Leser darauf hinweist, sich nicht von denen täuschen zu lassen, die diese Technologie als revolutionär bezeichnen.

Das Werk wurde in Wirklichkeit nicht nur auf Papier produziert, sondern sollte Teil einer Ausstellung in der Bozner Bibliothek sein. Aus diesem Grund wurde die hölzerne, lasergeschnittene Installation in Form einer Mühle geschaffen, die einen klaren Bezug zum zentralen Thema des Textes hat.

Das Buch ist in Filorefe gebunden, mit 240g Papier. Die betreffende Bindung ermöglicht es, das Buch um 180 Grad zu öffnen, und das Gewicht des Papiers sorgt dafür, dass das Buch aufrecht steht.

Das gewählte typografische Raster lässt auf dem Buchrücken einen großzügigen Rand, so dass das Buch auch dann noch gut lesbar ist, wenn es in die Installation eingelegt ist. Der auf den Text angewandte Effekt vermittelt den Eindruck einer nassen Seite, auf der sich die Tinte verteilt.
