(Not) a tray of good-looking food (2021); hard plastic tray, ceramic plate, metal fork and knife, a glass of water, paper placemat, cooked pasta, tomato sauce, and apple; 53 x 37 cm
There is a wooden chair and a tray of good-looking food laying on a wooden table. The food looks flourishing and wholesome and in fact even looking a bit closer and digging, things are just how they look. The food on the tray is the translation of the impression that others have of the artist and there is nothing more than that. The artist exists with nothing inside or hidden, there is simply good food.
(Not) a tray of good-looking food is the fictitious artwork that Lucia presented as my replacement for the actual one called Mimic.
Mimic (2021); performance performed by Licia with a hard plastic tray (53cm x 37cm), ceramic plate, metal fork and knife, a glass of water, paper placemat, cooked pasta, tomato sauce, and apple
People are unique in their way of being, or at least so it is thought. Each person has its own way of talking, walking, moving, writing, eating, reacting, these are the little things that make a person who they are. When these change and evolve others perceive it. Do they?
The artist wonders if it would be easy for the people around her to notice her eventual replacement or if this would remain unnoticed. Especially in today’s world where more attention is paid to what is posted on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok rather than on how a person act.
Mimic is a challenge for each one of you.
