The construction of images is an our daily life’s attitude; just think about social media where there is no space for ugliness, boringness and sadness. Thinking about photographs as a souvenir, we delegate them the task to preserve our memories despite the impossibility to include entire experiences in a frame.

Fascinated by the use we make of images, I worked with portraits, taking photos of people who reacted to the question “Can I take you a picture?” by posing, faking smiles or just organising themselves. The preparation for a photo is unconscious but imperative.

The aim of this project is to enlarge the frame, highlighting natural expressions, poses and gestures that disappear completely in the photo that is meant to be representative. The picture in the centre is the only one that is usually kept, the one that has the role to depict both the event and the subjects at their best. Consequently, the others are moved to the bin, letting an opened question about captured “reality”.
