Nr. 18

With the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947, Italy ceded vast territories of Istria and the coastal strip, and about 300 thousand people chose to leave their native lands destined not to be Italian anymore.

They abandoned their possessions to venture towards a disastrous Italy rather than remain, strangers, in Tito’s Yugoslavia, a land of violence and oppression that they no longer recognized.

So many lives were interrupted by history, by the exodus.

Warehouse Nr. 18  is a place of remembrance of the Istrian exodus,  it contains many small testimonies that belong to everyday life: hairs stacked together, sewing machines, stoves, mattresses, photographs, toys, letters and notebooks.

The project consist in a series of photos of chairs and little objects.

A digital space which I built is also available to watch che project three-dimensionally.
