My new greeting is to take up the children’s game peekaboo or ‘cuckoo game’. The latter is usually used to amuse infants who have not yet developed the ability to understand the permanence of objects in space. They will only become aware of this at around 8-9 months of age. The reaction is surprise on the part of the children at the disappearance and reappearance of those in front of them. The purpose of this editorial project is to critique the situation in which we have been forced to remain because of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns. We have been unable to see each other’s faces and have restricted expressions and gestures as never before. As in the game, everyone starts with their face covered and then shows themselves to the other, exaggerating the intensity of their emotions and feelings. Each of us rediscovers and will rediscover showing ourselves to others.
