It is difficult, if not impossible, to attribute the invention of sharpeners to one person. In fact, more than thirty years passed from the first forms of pencil sharpeners to large-scale production. In the presentation the history and the evolution of sharpeners is therefore explained.
Then the two most famous and used sharpener categories in the world are examined; prism sharpens and planetary sharpeners. Finally the production of the smallest, cheapest and most sold sharpeners in the world is explained.
