Playful Playing
BA Product Design Project
2021
semester
Playful playing comprises two sets, one for adults and one for children, each consisting of three ergonomic objects for playing the violin: a handle, a wrist rest and an arm rest. Their function is to correct the most common postural errors in the positions of the left hand and arm.
The project starts from the investigation of musical instruments as an extension of the body, while focusing especially on the violin. Studying it can in fact have long-term physical (especially muscular) repercussions if done incorrectly. This is why ergonomics becomes essential.
In playful playing, the ergonomic aspect also intersects with the concept of innovative music education, which goes beyond the conservative idea that characterises the world of classical instruments. This is achieved by promoting a playful type of learning, which places fun rather than performance at the centre of the study of the instrument. This is why the two sets are colourful and have animal shapes.
