SHOPPING RECEIPTS AS ANALOG SCREENS
MA Practice Based Course
2022
semester

We all came across shopping receipts, as they are part of our daily life, but usually thrown away after approximately two seconds and creating a toxic waste
In our project, we aim to show you why we think it is a fascinating material and how to deal with it in your daily life.
A receipt you get at a shop is regularly a thermoreactive material. This means that once you heat up the surface of the paper it changes it’s attributes, in our case it’s the colour. After a while reheating it gets brighter temporarily and then turns black again if you can do the same precisely it could almost work as a black and white analog screen. To take advantage of this characteristic, we have developed some techniques which are described in detail in the booklet below.
