The problem that I wanted to address in the development of this project is the difficulty of the elderly to use and interact with the newest technologies. The technology that I wanted to focus on is the smartphone.
I decided to address this problem after noticing the difficulties that my grandmother had facing her new smartphone. Even if the smartphone used by her is designed for elderly, she faced many problems remembering the passages and the gestures needed to interact with the device. For this reason, I thought to design a project that could be an exercise and a support for the better understanding of the passages needed to use a smartphone.
The first problem was the decision of the media. I leaned toward an analogical approach since it is designed for elderly. The shape and the user approach to it was a very important aspect to analyse. I focused my decisions to create an object that could be easy and comfortable to use and that didn’t remind a toy for kids.

After analysing different possibilities, the outcome of the research is an object inspired by camera films, that can be attached to the mobile, that is light weighted and can be serious but at the same time catchy and colourful. The result is a series of scrolls that link each colour to a different app and explain step by step the instructions on how to use each app. These scrolls are inserted inside a plastic cylinder that can be attached to the mobile trough the use of a magnet. The cylinder, positioned on the superior side of the mobile, has a slit where the scrolls can be pulled out.
