Takotsubo is a Japanese word that means “trap for octotpus” . The expression makes reference to ancient Japanese vases used to catch octopus that try to find shelter inside them. Takotsubo is also a word that makes reference to a serious syndrome that affects the heart and it is called the broken heart syndrome, the heart actually splits in two parts. This condition was first identified in Japan and the term ‘takotsubo’ comes from shape that the left ventricle assumes separating from the rest of the heart: it seems an octopus trying to escape from the trap.
