BA Visual Communication Project
2019
semester
The project started as an idea to alert Brazilian society, to give name and surname to the «black lives matter» movement. It deals with a chaotic environment in the city of São Paulo, appropriating the urban area and all the visual communication that this space offers as a place of criticism and political expression. Connecting a person’s name to an act in the past that has been defined by someone else as correct – such as murdering a person by fitting them into the group of delinquents, bandits, and criminals just because of their skin color –has caused irreparable social damage. When faced from a precise point of view it is possible to recognize the real situation in Brazil, questioning the deaths of so many young black people. Miguel Gustavo Lucenal, Luciano Macedo, Bruno Gabriel dos Santos, Marcos Paulo Oliveira, Denys Henrique Quirino, Kauan Peixoto, Mateus dos Santos, Dennys Guilherme, Gustavo Cruz Xavier, Eduardo da Silva, Jenifer Gomes, Gabriel Rogério, Luara Oliveira, Agatha Felix, and Aelson da Silva are individuals, real and singular, some of the many young black people from 11 to 27 years old unjustly murdered by the police. They are part of an endless and complex web, the result of a racist and oppressive institution.
