They are lying to you.
BA Visual Communication Project
2021
semester
“They are lying to you”, is a project focused on conspiracy theories. The current global situation made the danger of conspiracy theories clear, especially in times of mass media and the internet.
This is a series of postcards titled “They are lying to you”.I am presenting optical illusions but only telling one side of the story. By purposely lying to the viewer I hope to make them question what I’m showing to them and why. The viewer should supposedly see both version of what I’m showing.
Optical illusions are used as a metaphor for “Truth”, which is composed by both the official scientific version and an alternative view, such as conspiracy theory. This duality can be also found in illusions, since their optical appearance (the trick) differs from how they are constructed (the drawing). I want to use the symbol of illusions to express my message that is: “be careful to what you believe in”, since it’s influenced by individual perspective.
I hope that with my project people would reflect on what they are seeing. By questioning what you are shown, you should understand how easy it is to fall into conspiracy theories and to decide by yourself what you believe in, instead of being influenced.
