Water is vital to our survival. Many cultures award it a holy meaning. Some of the greatest achievements of man include water infrastructure. Water is a in itself is an important resource, it provides food and it can be a place of relaxation. Moving water is even proven to improve mental health. Natural Infrastructure is important for modern cities, unfortunately, green spaces are slowly disappearing. Uniqua was developed for the Berlin lake Krumme Lanke, but it can be used in other places as well. Uniqua is a water pavilion that fosters a private atmosphere and offers a bit of shade and a space to enjoy the surrounding nature. In Berlin, the lakes are very popular in summer to spend free time. But the limited beach space leads to overcrowding and encroaching on natural habitat. Therefore, the pavilion offers a space for people to enjoy a bit more privacy and to alleviate the overcrowding of the shoreline. There are two different variations each of which has its own unique functions. One variation is used as a relaxing private space with a singular bench in the middle of the platform. The bench offers seating as well as ly down space. The sails can be individually adjusted and function not only as a privacy shield but also as sun protection. The second variation is suited for groups who want to socialize. Two semicircle benches face each other ideal for socialization. The sails gradually decrease in size giving a more open appearance while still offering privacy from the shore as well as sun screening.
