Us & Them – Animation

Short animation displaying the subtle line that exists between being economically and mentally stable, having a place to call a home and a roof to live under and being respected and included within a community; and the opposite, which is living in the streets, with no economical reliance and foremost no respect and regard from those around you. It is mean to show the easiness of one’s life changeability and thus one’s identity, by depicting how rapid one that has a house and capital resources can end up in the streets; isolated poor and alone, or even having to flee their own country in the search of better life opportunities but oftentimes struggling immensely with injustice, social exclusion and prejudices. Why is it so hard for us humans to see each other as equals?  How would our identity be impacted once we accept we’re not different from each other? Once we realize, that tomorrow it could be us that end up losing our homes and have to survive for our lives with little or non empathy from this world?

Kurze Animation, die den feinen Unterschied zwischen “normale” Menschen (uns) und Obdachlose, Migranten und weitere Minderheiten (ihnen)  representiert, im Bezug zur Identität und vorallem Menschheit. Sie soll die leichte Veränderbarkeit des eigenen Lebens und damit der eigenen Identität zeigen, indem dargestellt wird, wie schnell jemand, der ein Haus und Kapitalressourcen hat, auf der Straße enden kann; isoliert, arm und allein, oder der sogar gezwungen ist, auf der Suche nach besseren Lebensmöglichkeiten aus dem eigenen Land zu fliehen, aber viel zu oft mit Ungerechtigkeit, sozialer Ausgrenzung und Vorurteilen zu kämpfen hat. Warum fällt es uns Menschen so schwer, einander als Gleiche zu sehen? Wie würde sich das auf unsere Identität auswirken, wenn wir akzeptieren würden, dass wir voneinander nicht anders sind? Wenn wir erkennen würden, dass wir morgen unser Zuhause verlieren könnten und unser Leben mit wenig oder gar keinem Mitgefühl dieser Welt bestreiten müssten?

Breve animazione che mostra la sottile linea che esiste tra l’essere economicamente e mentalmente stabile, avere un tetto sotto il cui vivere ed essere rispettatə e inclusə all’interno di una comunità, e il contraro, cioè il vivere per strada, senza alcun affidamento economico e soprattutto senza rispetto e considerazione da parte di chi ci circonda. Si tratta di mostrare la facilità con cui la propria vita può cambiare e perciò anche la propria identità, raffigurando come uno che ha una casa e risorse può finire per strada; isolato, povero e solo, o addirittura dover fuggire dal proprio paese in cerca di migliori opportunità di vita, ma spesso trovando ingiustizia, esclusione sociale e pregiudizi. Perché è così difficile per noi umani vederci come uguali? Che impatto avrebbe sulla nostra identità il fatto di accettare di non essere diversi gli uni dagli altri? Una volta che ci si rende conto che potremmo essere noi domani a perdere le nostre case e a dover sopravvivere con poca o nessuna empatia da parte di questo mondo?
